Even with My Dark Side

Kelly Clarkson's Dark Side from her album, Stronger

"Will you love me even with my dark side?"

If I tell you and show you my dark side, will you still love me? Will you still befriend me? Will you even come near me? Won't you judge me? Won't you look down on me? Won't you leave me?

As I listen to this song, I can't help but see my old self. It was so dark back then. Insecure. Selfish. Liar. Emotional. Judgmental. Discontented. By the world's standards, I wasn't this, I wasn't that. I wasn't anyone. I was nothing. I was worse than what you can see from the outside. A picture flashed back in my eyes - a girl curled up in a dark room with tear-filled tears and a cry in her heart, "I do not know what to do anymore." There's something that I needed to fill up that gap in my heart. But I just don't know what it is that I needed.

As the songs goes, "If I show it to you now, will it make you run away... or will you stay? Even if it hurts, even if I try to push you out, will you return? And remind me who I really am." Someone came to save me from the darkness that I was in. Someone shed light in my succumbed life. That someone is Jesus.

He has seen my dark side. He has seen how much of a sinner I was behind the mask that I was playing. It made him cry. It broke his heart. Upon realizing that "I am not okay," He came and rescued me from the torment that I was in. He showed me what He has done on the cross. "I died for you. You can't just look down on yourself like that. You are worthy. You are more than worthy." He love me all my life. He pictured my entirety and planned out things for me even before I was born. All that it takes is for me to come to Him dirty, and He will tidy me up. All that it takes is for me to take that one step to Him and He will remind me of the identity that He has given me. All that it takes is for me to realize that He loves me so much and He has come to give me a full life.

I know that this is a secular song but I can't help but see God in it. He has seen our bad sides but He stayed. He didn't run away. Even if we push Him out, even if we ignore Him, He still loves us. He loves us no matter what and He's there calling out to us to run back into His loving arms. He reminds us of who we are in Him. We are God's children. We are the Creator's beloved children. Then who can top that? No one! For that is the greatest identity we have. We just have to accept that.

Apart from Christ, I am nothing. But now that I have received Him in my life and surrendered it to Him, I have everything and God sure has the ability to create something out of nothing and turn it into something great! We just have to empty our hands of the unimportant things we're holding to. He can't give us something if our hands are full. With emptied hands, we come to Him and let Him do what he does best. Bless us abundantly in every area of our lives! He has BIG plans for you and me! Aren't you excited?

Each of us has a bad side and Jesus has come to save us because He loves us! He loves us so much and His love endures forever.

Will God love me even with my dark side? YES! And it's time to let Him turn it all around, transform you and make you experience the best life with Him!
